Owner and Trainer, JW Horsemanship & Services Joe is a native Texan, living in and around the Houston area for most of his life. He discovered his love of horses and horsemanship about 15 years ago, at an open horse event, and has never looked back. Currently located on a rustic farm in Brenham, TX, Joe runs his Horsemanship School as well as a Board & Train program that accepts a select few horses in for training. He is also an expert barefoot trimmer, one of the few that will also train horses and donkeys to accept farrier work if they have never learned these skills. Contact us for more information!
Joe has operated JW Horsemanship & Services for about 15 years, training horses and donkeys, trimming their hooves, and teaching folks about horses and horsemanship. Joe and Karen met a few years back when her senior mare needed evaluation and conditioning. Karen handles the business side of JW Horsemanship while also working full time in tech and riding her mare and pony when the weather allows.
Queen of the herd, and extra special teaching horse, Pebbles is a 25 year old paint mare, a black & white tobiano. She is sturdy, kind, and meets our students where they are. We estimate she has introduced over 50 beginner riders to the joy that is horsemanship.
Adopted from Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society in 2014, Pony is a 15 year old 13hh chestnut pony mare. She is the silhouette you see in the JW Horsemanship & Services logo, and is the ‘swishiest’ horse you’ll ever ride. She teaches an occasional lesson for our more advanced students, as she is quite sensitive, but there’s not a mean bone in her body.
A brown & white tobiano paint, Dakota is a retired show and parade horse. He has competed with his owner across Texas and south central states, carried rodeo flags, and paraded thru downtown Houston in his prime. He is an important professor in our lesson program, and, at 22 years old, is keeping fit in his retirement years.
